Who doesn't love French toast? If you don't you are plainly weird. Although I can see the point, if you are using commercial bread with all that entails, vs flour egg, milk and sugar in pancakes. If you need to solve that problem, make your own bread. Could be a win win.
FRENCH TOAST
Servings: 1
Prep time: 5
Cook time: 5
Ingredients
- 2 slices of bread per serving
- 1 egg per serving
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 tsp butter
- syrup for serving
Optional:
- 1 tsp pumpkin or apple pie spice
- 1 tsp cinnamon with cloves or ginger
Instructions
- You can slice or leave whole your bread, your choice.
- In a small dish, break an egg, add the milk and vanilla and beat like you would scrambled eggs.
- Place pieces of bread into the mixture and soak for at least 1 minute, longer than that and you won't be able to pick up the bread (will fall apart).
- While the bread is soaking, heat a skillet over medium heat and add the butter so it is sizzly hot when you add the bread.
- Flip over the bread in the egg mixture so the other side gets eggy.
- Lift gently the bread and add to the skillet, let this cook for 3-4 minutes until the bottom has gotten brown and is cooked through. Flip and repeat for the other side.
- Serve with warm syrup and a pat of butter - fresh fruit if you have some
